There are a few basic pieces of equipment that you will need to take on your camping trip. First, you’re going to need a tent to provide you with shelter. A sleeping bag will be necessary to keep you warm and toasty, allowing you to get a good night’s sleep on your camping trip. A backpack can hold your extra clothes, gear, socks, sunscreen, and whatever else you bring. A first aid kit is a must for those “just in case” times that might come up. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen. A camera is also a great way to capture the memories of your first camping trip. You’ll probably also want a few “creature comforts” to make your experience pleasant – a pillow, sleeping pad and of course good food!
If you’re interested in camping, it might be better (and cheaper!) to borrow the camping equipment you need from a friend or family member. Give it a try before you invest a lot of money in equipment. You can also look for a store that will loan or rent the necessary gear.
Camping can be as adventuresome as you please, depending on your spirit. If you’re going camping for the first time you’ll probably want to keep it simple. Try “car camping” as a first experience. That’s a campground where you drive into your campsite. Clean restrooms and a good, hot shower can help make your transition to outdoorsman or outdoorswomen a little easer.
